The heart of my practice is working with parents and children in order to create positive home environments. My specialized background and training in the effects of chronic trauma on the "operating systems" of a developing child open up unique approaches that many find helpful. It is so easy for parents and kids to get "stuck" as they seek to function as a family unit. Our children bring their own history and dynamics into the family and their "stuff" will press up against our "stuff" and create lots of opportunities for conflict. In "family matters" counseling we work to find new ways to connect so that the parents can provide the secure home base that the kids need. Parents are also heartened by finding new pathways to positively respond to their children that are not controlled by their child's misbehavior. I find that while the child is often the "identified client" in the therapy work, the parents provide the "leverage points" to tangibly change the environment and, by extension, the child and their behaviors. I am able to accept Aetna, Cigna, UHC, BCBSTX, Amerigroup, and Superior Health. I am also a contract provider with several agencies that provide post-adoption services.
