Equine Assisted PsychotherapyWe are currently offering Trauma Focused Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (TF-EAP) through Natural Lifemanship (NL). Both chronic and acute trauma are stored both mentally and physically. The experience of connecting to a horse, both from the ground and riding, provide openings for healing that are not present in office work. The designers of this program have studied under and put together information from some of the best minds in the world of brain science today. In short, the connection that is established with the horse through "ground work" like grooming is combined with rhythmic riding to open up new neural pathways that free clients from the effects of earlier experiences. Through this experiential work, clients report new abilities to manage their lives positively.
As of January, 2018, I relocated my office and have begun offering TF-EAP with our horses following the Natural Lifemanship model. We regularly see breakthroughs for clients that we know would not have happened simply through office work. In EAP, therapy not only involves the horse, but also includes an equine professional (EP), whose job is to keep everyone safe and to help interpret the actions of the horse. My wife, Bonnie Harlow (God is Faithful Acres), is certified to act in this capacity (through PATH) and is a full member of the treatment team for clients who pursue EAP. |
