Experience and Education

Jim is the adoptive father of 5.  He and his wife adopted each of their kids individually about 30-35 years ago here in north Texas through the foster care system.  The children came at different ages (3 months to 15 years old) and from diverse backgrounds.  They have all now made it to adulthood, educating Jim in the process.

Other education includes an MA in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University and four years working with the TCU Institute of Child Development.

Other important factors:

Picture
  •  My primary background is not academic, but practical.  This informs all  my interactions with my clients.
  • I have lived the life of an adoptive parent with challenging children.  I understand and respect both the pressures involved in building your family through adoption as well as the gifts and heartbreaks that may be present.
  • I respect the complexity of each client's unique situation. I will not offer you a  simple, automatic solution.  If there were such a thing, you would have found it by now.  The goal is not to turn you into the perfect parent or person, but to help you discover new ways of approaching life that increase your joy and peace.
  • Counseling is a hard process.  I have come to respect how difficult it is for people to come to me and bare their hearts.  Finding a way through your present situation will take perseverance and creativity -- but there  is hope.  I   have seen real change in myself, my children, and my clients.  I have confidence that change is possible for you.
